World Aids Museum Film Screening: When Ocean Meets Sky
When Ocean Meets Sky
Friday, July 21, 7:00pm at the museum
When Ocean Meets Sky (2003) is A colorful look at Fire Island Pines and the gay community that gathers there every summer. From its founding 65 years ago, to the present day, this community has seen the beginning of gay liberation, the sexual revolution, the AIDS crisis and today’s GLBTQ challenges. When Ocean Meets Sky is much more than a film about Fire Island history; it tackles big questions: How do/did GLBTQ people go about defining themselves in a hostile world? How did we get this way? How did the AIDS crisis change everyone’s perspective? Where is the GLBTQ community going now? Don’t miss this fascinating film!
Among the commentators in the film: Carson Kressley (“Queer Eye for the Straight Guy”), Broadway tunesmith Jerry Herman, playwright Mart Crowley (“The Boys in the Band”) and writer-activist Larry Kramer.
Additionally, Dino Georgiou who is featured in the film, was the long-time president of the New York City Gay and Lesbian Community Center and is a founder of Sunserve, will introduce the film at the museum and host conversation following it!
The screening is free but as always a $5 donation is appreciated
