SAGE is the nation's oldest LGBTQ+ elder advocacy and services organization. Founded in 1978, SAGE leads in addressing issues related to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) aging. In partnership with its constituents and allies, SAGE works to achieve a high quality of life for LGBT older people, supports and advocates for their rights, fosters a greater understanding of aging in all communities, and promotes positive images of LGBT
life in later years. SAGE, in collaboration with Sunshine Cathedral, has established a Friendly Visitor program in Broward County matching trained volunteers with LGBTQ+ older adults who seek greater social interaction. Volunteers meet with their assigned ''Friend-at-Home'' weekly for 1-2 hours and check in between visits by phone.
